About Lorna Brown
Lorna Brown is a artist from Shipham in Somerset. She studied Fine Art Painting at University and more recently illustrated a series of children's books but also has a parallel career as a McTimoney Animal Therapist and a Horseriding coach. Her knowledge and interest in the structure and movement of animals has fuelled her passion for sculpture and she is currently using a variety of materials to produce expressive sculptures of wildlife, domestic animals and figures.
She has developed a technique which uses a combination of wire, metal, fabric and resin. Each sculpture is created individually by hand to capture the character traits of different animals. Fabric fibres, wire and metal are manipulated to emulate the flow of movement, but also the effect of the skin and coat where this forms part of the animal's personality. The gaps in the sculptures lead to the sense of movement and lightness in the pose. The sculptures are set into a slate effect base and the organic finish on each piece mimics the effect of rusty metals and weathered paintwork.
